One of the easiest and most effective ways to grow your email list is through video, particularly video ads. The following case study will show you the exact video strategy we used to grow my client’s email list by 650%!

I believe videos are so powerful because they are personal, engaging, and people relate and gravitate toward the authenticity.

And, Facebook favors video by pushing it out into the feed more.  Not only that, but you have the opportunity to retarget an audience with ads based off of how long they’ve viewed you’re video.  If someone watched your video 50% or more, you know, without a doubt, they are engaged with your content and are more likely to buy from you when the time is right.

However, there’s nothing worse than making a video and have absolutely no one watch it.  A good video needs to be organic, feel ‘off-the-cuff’, and truly provide value.

There are two types of value driven video content:

  1. Educational
  2. Entertainment

Both can be used to capture your audience and keep them watching until the end.

Remember Chewbacca Mom?  With over 11 million views on Youtube, Chewbacca Mom was a video that went viral of a women sitting in her car trying on a Chewbacca mask.  Seems kind of silly, but people loved. this. video.

For all of the reasons I mentioned above: it’s authentic, personal, engaging, entertaining, and most of all authentic.

When you record a video in your car, or say, walking around outside, it feels more natural and unrehearsed.  People love to watch these type of videos.

So, when we saw this strategy was working with one of my clients, we knew we had to leverage the data in some way. For this particular client, it meant redirecting them to sign up for her email list.

My client grew her email list by 650% in 6 months using 1 minute videos that she filmed in her car.

Take a look at some of these examples, and look at that engagement!

These videos clearly resonate with her audience, and it’s helped her generate a consistent flow of new leads. By promoting the ads with a lead generation ad campaign, it allowed users to sign up right then for more content.

My pro tip: If you’ve been hesitant to try video, or if you’re videos aren’t getting the best engagement, try switching up your filming style. Try filming from your car, while on a walk, or wherever inspiration strikes. Be sure that you are providing value by making your videos educational or entertaining.

Remember, you want to create content that is likable, shareable, and/or searchable.
